Long-Term Follow-Up of RegJoint™ Implant in CMC Joint Treatment (2022)
Marcuzzi et al. conducted a long-term evaluation of the bioabsorbable poly-L/D-lactide (PLDLA) scaffold (RegJoint™) used in trapeziometacarpal (CMC) joint arthroplasty. The average follow-up was 13.6 years.
Key Findings:
- Significant and lasting improvement in grip and pinch strength
- Pain relief was substantial (VAS 7.5 → 2.3)
- Radiological collapse of joint space was observed, but no revision surgeries were needed
Conclusion:
Despite disappointing radiological findings, clinical outcomes remained satisfactory over time. RegJoint™ may be a viable alternative to traditional surgical techniques in treating rhizarthritis.
