Short term (1 year) results after total trapeziectomy (2018)

Van Royen at el published their results of the limited 10 patients serie. One year follow-up time is short for the final conclusions of the clinical outcome.

This study evaluated the short-term outcomes of patients who underwent total trapeziectomy for thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) joint osteoarthritis. The procedure involves removing the trapezium bone without reconstruction or implant placement. Results showed significant pain relief and improved hand function within a few months postoperatively. Complication rates were low, and most patients reported satisfaction with the outcome. The findings support the use of this straightforward surgical approach in selected cases.
